Wanting Six Things Doesn't Mean Building Six Sites
Certainty: This is how I did it this time, and it feels right.
At first I listed six directions I wanted to pursue: a digital garden, creative-coding toys, a writing site, a life dashboard, a product hub, a curated magazine. My first instinct was to “build six sites” — which was all but destined to fizzle out half-finished.
The real answer is to converge, not pile up: find the few that can act as a skeleton, and let the rest get “absorbed” into them.
- The writing site → becomes long-form pieces living in the garden;
- The curated magazine’s reading lists and tool lists → become two continuously tended list-notes in the garden;
- Creative-coding toys → become one category of work housed in the workshop;
- The life dashboard → no site at all; downgraded to a single “heartbeat” module shared across the three sites.
The essence of all six ideas is kept, yet the maintenance surface is only two new sites. That judgment — which ones become the skeleton and which get absorbed — matters far more than “whether to do it at all.”
