Write Prompts Like Specifications
Certainty: Tried a few times, still validating
A three-sentence seed:
- When writing prompts for an AI, “describing what counts as correct” beats “describing what you want”—the clearer you spell out the constraints, edge cases, and acceptance criteria, the less rework you’ll face.
- This is the same skill as writing a requirements doc for a contractor; the AI just compresses the feedback loop from a week down to a minute.
- Still to verify: whether there’s a tipping point where a prompt gets so detailed that you’d have been better off just writing the code yourself.
